Possible fuel leak linked to faulty pipe fasteners
Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling about 94,760 Genesis vehicles in the United States due to a potential fuel leak that could increase the risk of an engine fire.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from a defect in the crossover fuel pipe that connects the left and right fuel rails in the engine. The retention fasteners securing the pipe may loosen over time, potentially leading to fuel leakage.
The problem was first identified in July 2024 after two U.S. customers reported a fuel-like odor and visible leakage. An investigation found that insufficient application of torque stabilizer during vehicle assembly may have caused the fasteners to lose their clamping force over time.
Hyundai has received 129 reports related to the issue in the U.S. market, but no crashes, fires or injuries have been reported.
The recall affects the following models:
- 2023–2025 Genesis G90
- 2021–2025 Genesis G80
- 2021–2025 Genesis GV80
- 2022–2026 Genesis GV70
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified starting June 8 and instructed to visit authorized Genesis dealerships for inspection. Technicians will retighten the crossover fuel pipe or replace it if necessary.
All repairs will be performed free of charge, regardless of warranty status. Hyundai will also reimburse customers who previously paid out-of-pocket for related repairs.
