H Mart to Open 10th Seattle Store in Ballard on October 5

H Mart, the largest Asian supermarket chain in the United States, will open its 10th location in the Seattle area on October 5 in Ballard, at 951 N.W. Ballard Way, according to a September 20 report from the Seattle Times.

The new 25,000-square-foot store will include a deli section, a dedicated K-beauty zone, and a lifestyle goods store operated by Artbox, creating a comprehensive retail experience for shoppers.

The building previously housed New Seasons Market from 2018 to 2019, but remained vacant after plans to convert it into an Amazon Go store fell through. Earlier this year, H Mart secured the necessary permits and began preparing for the opening. The site includes a private parking lot with space for approximately 70 vehicles.

H Mart entered the Seattle market in 2017 with its first store in the University District and now operates additional locations in Lynnwood, Redmond, Tacoma, and other areas in Washington.

Founded in 1982 in Queens, New York, H Mart has expanded to more than 100 stores across 18 states, supported by over 6,000 employees, five regional distribution centers, and various food processing facilities.

Beyond providing high-quality Asian groceries and household goods, H Mart offers specialized services in deli, seafood, meat, produce, and catering, and caters to a multicultural customer base.

Over its 40-year history, H Mart has evolved from a grocery store into a community-oriented brand that supports the Korean American population and broader local communities. Its corporate social responsibility efforts include scholarships, nonprofit sponsorships, and participation in local events, often collaborating with organizations like the Red Cross, Korean associations, museums, and police departments.
