Samsung’s on-device AI, which offers live translation of multiple languages, will soon be available on third-party apps such as KakaoTalk.

Some of the features provided by Galaxy AI are Live Translate, enabling real-time translations during phone calls, and Chat Assist, which offers contextually relevant suggestions to help users perfect conversations in an another language.

“We plan to extend the Galaxy AI real-time translation feature not only to Samsung apps, but also to various third-party messaging apps that support voice calling,” wrote Samsung’s Choi Won-joon, head of the research and development of smartphone business, on an opinion piece released on the Samsung Newsroom website on Friday. “This will allow users to conveniently communicate in multiple languages using various apps with real-time translation, breaking down language barriers when meeting friends while traveling.”

Although Choi did not elaborate on what kind of third-party apps would support Galaxy AI, Samsung released a separate statement that KakaoTalk, Korea’s top mobile messenger, will have access to the AI features.

Since real-time translation is done through on-device AI, users would not need to worry about privacy breaches, Choi elaborated.

Choi also emphasized the importance of data security and privacy for smartphones.

“Smartphones are very personal devices which record every moment of our daily lives and store various information,” he said. “It is essential to provide a seamless mobile experience by giving users full choice and control over every moment they use their smartphones. Samsung offers complete control and robust privacy protection to its users.”

Galaxy AI will also be supported on Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6, which will reportedly be unveiled at the Unpacked event next month.

The newest lineups will be the first Samsung’s foldable phones equipped with Galaxy AI.
