Korean-American Daphne Kwon appointed as CFO of National Public Radio

Daphne Kwon, a Korean-American, has been named chief financial officer (CFO) of public broadcasting organization National Public Radio (NPR).

National Public Radio (NPR) announced on June 15 that Daphne Kwon, a Korean-American in her 50s, has been appointed as the chief financial officer of NPR.

According to NPR, Kwon will assume her role as CFO on June 26. In a press release, NPR stated that Kwon was selected for her financial acumen and 20 years of experience in the media industry.

Kwon’s LinkedIn bio reveals that she graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in accounting and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Throughout her career, she has worked at prominent organizations such as investment firm Morgan Stanley, Walt Disney ABC, Oxygen Media, ExpoTV, Goop.com, Betaworks Studios, and most recently at Flipside Crypto.

NPR President and CEO John Lansing praised Kwon, stating, “Daphne is an experienced media industry professional and brings a creative and strategic approach to financial leadership. She is exactly the kind of leader we need at this time to guide us.”

Expressing her excitement, Kwon said, “My entire media career has led me to this opportunity at NPR. Journalism has never been more crucial. I am honored to be a part of this team and look forward to contributing to NPR’s growth and impact.”

Founded in 1970, NPR is a nonprofit American public broadcasting organization that produces nonpartisan news, diverse radio programs, and more for the nation. As of 2020, it averages 26.1 million weekly listeners.
