The Korea Daily will review a series of restaurants in LA frequented by K-pop idols and celebrities. The first restaurant we visited was Jinsol Gukbap.

Jinsol Gukbap boasts three restaurants in total, with two located in LA Koreatown and one in Buena Park.

During the KCON LA 2023, the K-pop girl group Ive, along with their staff, dined at Jinsol Gukbap. The visit was publicized by Ive’s leader, An Yujin, through her Instagram, where she described the restaurant as a Korean food matjip (tasty house) in LA.

We went to two Jinsol Gukbap locations in LA, one on 8th Street and the other on 3rd Street.

Renowned in Koreatown, Jinsol Gukbap offers a diverse menu, including soups, hot stone pots, cold noodles, pork ribs, short ribs, pig’s feet, and stew. Prices range from $6.95 to $45 (accommodating up to three servings).

Following our visit to the Koreatown locations, we had the opportunity to interview Soo Yeon Cho, the restaurant manager of Jinsol Gukbap.

Below are edited excerpts from our interview with Manager Soo Yeon Cho.

-What dishes did Ive and their staff enjoy during their visit?
“Group Ive and their staff savored Dwaeji Gukbap (Pork Soup W/ Rice), Kimchi Jjim (Kimchi Stew W/ Pork Belly), Dwaeji Galbi Gochujang (Marinated Spicy Pork Rib in Red Chili Paste), LA Galbi (Grilled Beef Short Rib), and Naengmyeon (Cold Noodle).”

-With Jinsol Gukbap recently opening a new restaurant in Koreatown, what factors contribute to its success?
“Our focus is on traditional slow Korean food, contrary to fast food. The broth is simmered in a cauldron for over 24 hours without any MSG, offering a clear and rich flavor. Our dedication to quality and quantity is recognized by our customers. We serve generous portions, not just because you’re interviewing me, but it’s our standard practice. It’s common for three customers to share a single kimchi stew and leave satisfied. We believe in providing ample food.”

-Jinsol Gukbap attracts diverse ethnic backgrounds. What dishes do they prefer, and what sets your restaurant apart?
“Our signature dish, pork soup, comes with a variety of side dishes, offering a fulfilling meal at a reasonable price. Popular among our diverse customers are the Naengchae Jokbal (Braised pigs’ feet w/ special mustard sauce & cold jellyfish salad), grilled meats, and steamed kimchi stew.”
