Sungho, a Korean restaurant in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, has been added to the 2025 MICHELIN Guide California, introducing authentic Korean soul food to the city’s dining scene. Led by Chef Sungho, the restaurant specializes in gukbap (Korean rice soup with pork bone broth), a dish inspired by his grandmother’s kitchen in Korea.
Gukbap and home-style Korean comfort food
At 250 Hyde St, Sungho’s menu highlights hearty, slow-simmered dishes rarely found in the Bay Area. Its signature pork bone gukbap, simmered for 24 hours, delivers a rich, deeply flavorful broth paired with tender pork and rice. Other menu standouts include kalguksu (hand-cut noodles in galbitang beef short rib broth), jeon (savory pancakes with seafood or kimchi), and yangnyeom-gejang (spicy marinated raw crab).

Chef Sungho, previously head chef at traditional Korean restaurants, opened Sungho to share the warmth and nostalgia of his grandmother’s cooking. His dishes focus on carefully selected, high-quality ingredients, served in a cozy setting with house-made kimchi, attentive service, and a K-pop playlist that adds a modern Korean touch.

Sungho operates for dinner Thursday through Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and for lunch Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The current pop-up menu is available until November 30.
Other California restaurants added to Michelin Guide 2025
Sungho is among 13 new additions to the 2025 MICHELIN Guide California. Other newly recognized spots include Komal in Historic South-Central LA, which focuses on heirloom corn Mexican dishes; Somni in West Hollywood, offering contemporary Spanish cuisine by Chef Aitor Zabala; and Vin Folk in Hermosa Beach, serving globally inspired Californian fare.
The Michelin Guide has not yet announced the recognition level—Star, Bib Gourmand, or Recommended—for these restaurants.
