Fullerton is moving to launch its first Chimaek Festival—a Korean fried chicken and beer celebration—in August or September. The city aims to turn the event into a local draw, combining food, music, and family attractions.

On March 31, Mayor Fred Jung signed a memorandum of understanding with LinkOne, which runs the Fullerton K-Seongnam Business Center. Under the deal, Fullerton will provide administrative support, while LinkOne leads the planning.
City Backs Korean Food and Culture Event
LinkOne will use its network of Korean municipalities, artists, and businesses to build the festival’s programming. The city hopes the event will strengthen cultural ties and boost the local economy.
Organizers are modeling the event after Daegu’s Chimaek Festival in South Korea, where thousands gather each summer for chicken, beer, and live music.
Chimaek Festival to Feature K-pop and Local Talent
“Chimaek” merges “chicken” and “maekju,” the Korean word for beer. It’s a staple of Korean nightlife, now gaining ground abroad.
The Fullerton version will feature a mix of vendors offering different chicken and beer brands. Live performances by K-pop artists, shows by local performers, and hands-on booths for families are also in the works.
Officials See Economic and Cultural Upside
“We’re excited to bring one of Korea’s most iconic festivals to Fullerton,” said Mayor Fred Jung. “It’s a chance for our community to engage with Korean culture and energize the city.”
Daniel Choi, vice president of LinkOne, called it “an honor” to partner with the city. “We’re committed to creating a festival everyone can enjoy—and one that brings Korea’s flavor and energy to Fullerton.”
Fullerton Chimaek Festival Details Coming Soon
Final details—including location, dates, and programming—will be announced soon. LinkOne is currently in talks with Korean public agencies, performance groups, and local vendors to finalize participation.
The Fullerton Chimaek Festival is expected to offer more than food—it’s designed to deliver a full cultural experience.
