As it gets colder, people find their eyes getting drier with the use of heater. Especially those who spend much time staring at computer screens, dry eye syndrome only gets worse.
Dry eye syndrome is a common disorder of the normal tear film that results from decreased tear function, excessive tear evaporation, or an abnormality in the production of lipids found in the tear layer. People who suffer from dry eyes might end up having more severe symptoms such as sensitivity to light, blurred vision or eye fatigue.
People commonly treat dry eyes with eye drops. However, usage of eye drops can only relieve symptoms for a short time, not curing or preventing the symptoms. If the eye drop contains steroids or vasoconstrictors, it can even bring side effects.
Several studies suggest omega-3 fatty acids help protect eyes from dry eye syndrome. Essential fatty acids may also help proper drainage of intraocular fluid from the eye, decreasing the risk of high eye pressure or dryness.
Staring at a computer screen for a long time without break is one of the worst habits for dry eyes. Try to take a 10-minute break every 1 hour. Massaging around your eyes and looking 20 feet away help fast recovery.
