KBS’s popular School series is coming back this year. While casting is still in progress, people are paying much attention to it as it has historically been the gateway for Korean drama rookies to make their names known.
Since 1999, the School series has continued its fame, airing six seasons including School, School 2013, and Who Are You – School 2015.
However, what makes the series worth watching is not its long history, but the stars it has made whose names known. Including Ahn Jae-mo, Choi Kang-hee, Jang Hyuk, and Bae Doo-na in School 1; Kim Rae-won, Kim Min-hee, and Ha Ji-won in School 2; Jo In-sung and Park Gwang-hyun in School 3; Im Soo-jung and Gong Yoo in School 4; and finally Lee Jong-suk, Kim Woo-bin, Kim So-hyun, Nam Joo-hyuk, and Yook Sung-jae in recent two seasons, actors and actresses in the School series had built their reputations through the drama.
While viewers are waiting for the cast members to be unveiled for the reason above, they are expecting much from the drama’s quality as well. Produced by Park Jin-suk of Naked Fireman and written by Lim Soo-mi of Let’s Eat and Rude Miss Young-Ae, the upcoming teen drama is expected to blow a new wind in current Korean drama scene, which is saturated with crime and fantasy genre dramas.
School 2017 plans to release the premiere episode in July.
