A Korean-American senior in his 90s was stabbed multiple times to death in his apartment in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, at around 7:48 a.m. on September 25, a caller reported a man down in the Marian Road Highrise apartment building at 760 Sidney Marcus Boulevard. Police responded to the call and found a 90-year-old man dead at the scene, stabbed multiple times.

The deceased man was identified as Korean American Jun Ki Kim. “The deceased victim is Mr. Jun Ki Kim, a U.S. citizen,” Myung Hwan Sung, police consul at the Korean Consulate General in Atlanta, told the Korea Daily in a phone call.

Sung said, Kim owned a shoe repair shop in Atlanta for many years, and was a highly respected member of the Korean American community, donating to the Korean American Association of Greater Atlanta.

The family is reportedly devastated by Kim’s sudden death and is having a hard time coming to grips with their loss.

“The family explained that there was no reason for Kim to be murdered and that there was no grudge match,” Sung said, adding, “It is also difficult to assume a financial motive, as Kim’s shoe repair shop was small and he wasn’t wealthy.”

No suspects have been arrested, and police are continuing to investigate the case. “The case is being investigated by the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Division, and no further information has been released,” Atlanta Police Department Public Information Officer John Predmore told the Korea Daily.

Sung said he plans to make official inputs to the Atlanta Police Department regarding the incident to ensure a prompt and accurate investigation.

The apartment where Kim lived was a senior apartment building, with about half of the residents reportedly being Korean-American.
