Chuseok Sales and Promotions

With only two weeks remaining until Chuseok (Oct. 4), the Korean Thanksgiving, retailers in Koreatown are providing a big sale and promotions to celebrate the holiday. Gift sets of various nutritional products, fruits and meats are now available on discounted deals, while some businesses are even offering free delivery to Korea.

◇ Nutritional supplements
Health-related products are one of the most popular gift items for Chuseok. Red Ginseng House to offering a 1 + 1 deal under the slogan “Chuseok Festival,” while YS Health also has a similar promotion available until Sept. 30. At YS Health, a wild ginseng abstract is available for just $890 (original price is $1,200). Any customer who buys the red ginseng concentrate will also get a $205 deer antler’s abstract. Delivery to Korea is available for free.

Umeken USA’s sale event will also continue for the rest of the month. “Customers who spend $150 or more will be given a gift that they’ve never been able to get,” said Umeken USA marketing director Silvano Kim.

◇ Delivery to Korea
Free delivery to Korea for customers who wish to send gifts to their families back home has been immensely popular. Maiko Department Store has Korean beef, covinas and red ginseng in gift sets for Southern California-based Koreans who cannot visit their families in Korea for the holiday. Delivery is available for free to any location in South Korea.

The sale at H Mart for some items is as high as 35 percent off. Korean beef sets range from $80 to $520, seafood sets from $105 to $385 and fruit baskets from $100 to $200. Delivery to Seoul takes two to three days and three to four days to other cities. However, H Mart encourages all customers to make an order at least 10 days earlier as delivery could take longer during the holiday.

◇ Miscellaneous
Kim’s Home Center is offering a discount on the Cuckoo Rice Cookers until Oct. 8. Buying some models of the cooker will come with a free stainless pot (originally $40).
