‘Squid Game’ Day

From left, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, CEO of Siren Pictures Kim Ji-yeon, director of “Squid Game” (2021) Hwang Dong-hyuk, actor Lee Jung-jae, and John Lee, a member of the Los Angeles City Council, pose for photos on Monday with the certificate that deems Sept. 17 “‘Squid Game’ Day” in front of LA City Hall. Sept. 17 is the day that “Squid Game” premiered last year. During the event, Garcetti praised “Squid Game” as a series that greatly contributed to the expansion of cultural diversity and described its success as “a victory in the fight to grow representation of the AAPI [Asian American and Pacific Islander] community in film and entertainment, exposing audiences to Korean culture and traditions while paving the way for other AAPI communities to also have their stories told.” [LA CITY COUNCIL]
