Tottenham Hotspur’s star striker Son Heung-min may be heading to America, and LA is emerging as his likely destination.
The South Korean captain is seriously considering a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), with Los Angeles FC (LAFC) currently in advanced talks. A source deeply connected to international sports marketing told The Korea Daily that, “Son is leaning toward MLS, and among all options, LAFC is his top priority.”

“There were serious offers from the Saudi Pro League,” the source confirmed, “but Son values quality of life and a comfortable environment more than an astronomical salary. He’s particularly drawn to LA because of its vibrant Korean community.” The source even went so far as to say, “You could bet money on LA—it’s that close.”
British media are also fueling speculation about Son’s potential North American chapter. Football London recently reported that although Saudi clubs continue to aggressively court him, Son is showing stronger interest in the MLS. Sports betting outlet First noted that the North American league’s unique style of play could suit Son well, citing past successes like Wayne Rooney, Thierry Henry, and Lionel Messi.
One more piece of the puzzle? Former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou—who trusted Son enough to name him team captain—is now in the running to become LAFC’s next head coach. That connection could play a pivotal role in luring Son to Los Angeles.
And LAFC’s current roster isn’t unfamiliar territory for Son either. Veteran French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who played alongside Son at Tottenham, now protects LAFC’s net. Even Gareth Bale, another former Spurs legend, ended his career with the club.
The Korean American community in LA is already buzzing. One local fan said, “If I get to see Son Heung-min play live here in LA, I’ll probably cry. The whole community will come together to welcome him with open arms.”
Excitement is also brewing among general LAFC fans. Reddit threads are lighting up with comments like, “Seeing Son in our jersey would be surreal,” and “This would be like when Chan Ho Park and Ryu Hyun-jin joined the Dodgers—a game-changer for the Korean community in LA.”
Still, some hurdles remain. LAFC would need to handle a potentially massive transfer fee and hefty salary package. And while Postecoglou is reportedly on the shortlist, his appointment isn’t guaranteed. The Korea Daily reached out to LAFC for comment but has not received a response.
Even so, the possibility alone is sparking excitement. Korean fans are already saying they’re ready to buy season tickets the moment Son signs. All eyes are now on LA—and Son’s next move.
