Robert F. Kennedy Inspiration Park, located in the heart of Los Angeles Koreatown, has been temporarily closed following a jurisdictional transfer from the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks to the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
The closure has sparked growing frustration among local residents, who already face a shortage of public green space in the neighborhood. The park, situated near the intersection of Kenmore Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard, is now surrounded by fencing with posted signs prohibiting entry. The signage clearly states that the park is currently under the management of LAUSD.
The park had previously served as a gathering space for homeless individuals, raising safety and hygiene concerns among nearby residents. A March 22, 2024, report by this newspaper detailed these issues, which had led to ongoing tensions in the community.
Following the installation of fencing by LAUSD, homeless individuals have largely vacated the area. However, the park remains fenced off and unused, and overgrown vegetation has led to further concerns about neglect and deteriorating conditions.
A representative from the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office confirmed that the park’s jurisdiction was formally transferred to LAUSD. However, the official declined to comment on any future plans for reopening or revitalizing the space.
As the park remains closed indefinitely, residents continue to call for greater transparency and action to restore access to one of the few green areas available in the densely populated Koreatown district.
