Residents to receive California Climate Credit averaging $71 for October utility bills

California residents will receive a credit on their electric and gas bills this month.

More than 11.5 million households will receive a credit of at least $32 and up to $174 on their October electric and gas bills as California Climate Credit, Governor Gavin Newsom’s office announced on October 2.

Californians have been receiving climate credits twice a year, in April and October, since 2014 as their share of the benefits of the state’s Cap-and-Trade Program which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The credits that will be paid out this month vary by service providers but are expected to average about $71. Southern California Edison (SCE) is offering a credit of $86. Bear Valley customers will get $32.24, those of PG&E get $55.17, SDG&E $78.22, Liberty $131.01, and Pacific Power $174.25.

The state previously issued one round of credits for electric and gas bills in April. The credit amounts for each utility company are the same as in April.

In addition to household credits, the state government will also provide electricity and gas bill credits to small businesses. Eligible small businesses will automatically receive the credit this month.
