A Korean American teacher in New York was arrested after a student accused him of molestation inside a Bronx high school. He was removed from duty immediately, according to the New York City Department of Education.
According to News12 Bronx, Kiho Kim, a 60-year-old math teacher at Bronx Design and Construction Academy, was arrested on the December 8th. Police received a report from a student who said Kim pinched her buttocks as he passed her in a hallway near East 151st Street and Courtlandt Avenue.
Bronx Design and Construction Academy, a career and technical education (CTE) public high school under the New York City Department of Education, operates programs that prepare students for work in design and construction fields.
Kim has reportedly taught within the New York City Department of Education for 27 years. The source states that no information has been disclosed about any prior record related to misconduct or assault.
A spokesperson for the New York City Department of Education said this type of behavior “cannot be tolerated” and emphasized that student safety is the department’s priority. The spokesperson added that Kim was immediately removed from duty and that dismissal proceedings would begin if he is convicted.
