Consumers should beware of a new hacking scam targeting iPhones.
On March 23, IT professional Parth Patel reported on X (formerly Twitter) that he had experienced an attempt to steal his Apple ID information through his iPhone.
The scam is known as ‘MFA (multi-factor authentication) bombing’.
MFA is designed to prevent hacking. However, users are locked out of their iPhones until they respond to a reset notification.
Hackers exploit this feature by sending victims a password reset notification for their Apple account. The scammers then flood the victims’ iPhones with notifications and call them to obtain their verification code.
In particular, hackers reportedly manipulate the caller ID to disguise it as a genuine Apple support number.
Experts warn that if your iPhone is bombarded with unsolicited Apple password reset notifications, it is likely a hacking attempt.
