Perfect Crown is finally set to meet viewers, as MBC confirmed the official premiere date for the highly anticipated drama starring IU and Byeon Woo Seok.
According to industry sources on March 6, MBC’s upcoming Friday–Saturday drama Perfect Crown will premiere on April 10. The series will follow the currently airing drama In Your Radiant Season in the network’s prime-time slot and will run for a total of 12 episodes.
The drama had originally been considering several possible premiere dates in April. However, the schedule shifted due to the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC), particularly the high-profile Korea–Japan matchup on March 7. As the WBC broadcast caused a delay in the current drama’s schedule, the launch of Perfect Crown was pushed back by one week.
What Is the Perfect Crown About?
Perfect Crown is set in an alternate modern-day Korea where a constitutional monarchy still exists. The story follows a unique romance that challenges rigid social hierarchies.
IU plays Seong Hee-ju, a wealthy chaebol heiress who seemingly has everything except noble status, which becomes a constant source of frustration in her life. Opposite her is Byeon Woo Seok, who portrays Grand Prince Ian, the king’s son who possesses royal blood but cannot inherit the throne, leaving him unable to claim the power and freedom he desires.
Their relationship unfolds as a fate-driven romance that explores identity, class differences, and the struggle to break free from traditional societal boundaries.
Star Power Behind the Perfect Crown Project
From the moment casting was announced, the Perfect Crown project drew significant global attention thanks to the pairing of two of Korea’s most talked-about stars.
IU chose the drama as her next project following the success of When Life Gives You Tangerines, while Byeon Woo Seok selected the series after his breakout popularity with the hit drama Lovely Runner. Their collaboration has sparked intense anticipation among international fans.
Can the Drama Break MBC Ratings Records?
MBC’s Friday–Saturday drama lineup has produced several major hits over the years. Among them, Knight Flower holds the record with a peak rating of 18.4%, followed by The Red Sleeve at 17.4% and Big Mouth at 13.7%.
Industry watchers are now closely monitoring whether 21st Century Grand Prince can surpass the elusive 20% ratings mark that has historically been difficult for the network’s dramas to achieve.
With its high-profile cast, unique alternate-history premise, and strong global fan interest, the upcoming series is already being positioned as one of the most anticipated Korean dramas of 2026.
