Potholes are created when rainwater continues to seep into the surface of a particular road and then pressure is applied to the weakened ground. It is particularly difficult to spot when driving at night, leading to damage to the lower part of the vehicle’s wheels when driving through them.
CBS News reported that drivers are having to spending hundreds of dollars on tire replacement due to these potholes.
The city of LA is compensating for the vehicles’ damage from potholes. If the vehicle needs to be repaired, you can request compensation for the repair costs through the civil service line (311) or the website (myla311.lacity.org).
In addition, Caltrans is also compensating for the repair costs and property damage caused by potholes that are less than $10,000. For more information, visit the website at dot.ca.gov/online-services/submit-damage-claim.
The National Automobile Association (AAA) recommends maintaining proper air pressure, watching for potholes, maintaining a safe speed, and if possible, not braking directly over a pothole.
