Former Representative Mike Honda Visits Robert Ahn

Mike Honda, former Representative of California’s 17th Congressional District, visited Robert Ahn, who is running for California’s 34th Congressional District. Honda reportedly offered advice to Ahn ahead of the election on June 6. He has already declared that he will endorse Ahn for the upcoming election. Ahn is set to face Jimmy Gomez in the upcoming election. The voter registration ends on May 22.

Mike Honda is widely known throughout the Korean community for his advocacy on behalf of comfort women, including a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives stating that Japan should formally and clearly take responsibility for the issue. During World War II, women were kidnapped and forced into brothels by the Japanese military; the term “comfort women” is a euphemism used by the Japanese military to refer to these women, many of whom were Korean. While much of the international community accepts the historicity of comfort women, the Japanese government has yet to formally acknowledge these war crimes, causing continued tension between Korea and Japan over the issue.
