On the10th, Lyft said the new feature lets teenagers call a vehicle independently once a parent or legal guardian sets up the account.

Like competitor Uber, which already offers teen accounts, Lyft said it has added several safety measures. According to the company, only parents or guardians can create a teen account. Drivers matched with minor passengers must meet additional requirements and pass an annual criminal background check. Teen riders may bring additional passengers only with parental permission.

Lyft said it introduced PIN verification, voice recording, and real-time location tracking as part of the service. These features are designed to help parents monitor their child during trips.

Parents who want to create a teen account can select the profile icon at the bottom right of the app and tap “Lyft Teen” to sign up.
