Leaders honor Korea Daily’s 50-year milestone, impact on Korean-American community

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass sent a congratulatory message celebrating the Korea Daily’s 50th anniversary, acknowledging the milestone as a “golden anniversary” for the entire Korean-American community.

Though unable to attend the event due to official duties, Mayor Bass conveyed her congratulations through a video message. “I sincerely congratulate the Korea Daily on 50 years of publication,” she said, emphasizing that the newspaper has consistently provided essential news and information to the Korean-American community.

Mayor Bass also expressed her appreciation for the newspaper’s influence on many Korean Americans, particularly for inspiring cultural, social, and political contributions across the city. She added, “I understand that several important figures from Korea are attending this event, and I look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with businesses and leaders here in Los Angeles.”

U.S. Representative Michelle Steel (R-CA) also attended the event, expressing gratitude for Korea Daily’s successful 50-year history. “Working in politics, I constantly realize how crucial ethnic media is. I extend my thanks to the journalists who have faithfully delivered news and information to the Korean-American community.”

Representative Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), whose district includes Koreatown, remarked on the newspaper’s significant role in the over 100-year history of Korean immigration to the U.S. He encouraged Korea Daily to continue its efforts in fostering a more vibrant society by bringing together diverse communities.

Terry Tang, Executive Editor of the Los Angeles Times, highlighted the vital role of ethnic media, comparing it to the lifeblood of the community. “Let’s work together for the next 50 years through content collaboration and other initiatives to build a better society.”

U.S. Representative Andy Kim (D-NJ), who is currently running for the U.S. Senate, shared a video message praising Korea Daily’s efforts. “It’s remarkable and inspiring to see how the Korea Daily has connected Korea, the U.S., and the Korean-American community for 50 years. I hope you continue to provide enriching news and information to further strengthen the Korean-American community.”
