The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) has announced a new financial assistance initiative targeting 250 students aspiring to work in the healthcare and medical industries.
On November 19, LACCD unveiled its BOOST (Building Outstanding Opportunities for Students to Thrive) program, designed to facilitate credentialing and advanced learning opportunities for healthcare-focused students without financial barriers.
The program aims to foster the next generation of medical professionals to address critical industry needs.
As part of the BOOST initiative, 250 students requiring financial aid were selected to receive $1,000 in cash monthly for 12 months. The program is exclusively offered at East LA College, LA City College, LA Trade-Tech College, and LA Southwest College.
The selected students are expected to receive their first payments just before the Thanksgiving holiday.
With a total budget of $3 million, the BOOST program represents the largest guaranteed basic income initiative for community college students. It is funded by The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation and the California Community Foundation.
