A man shot and killed his former girlfriend before taking his own life inside a Korean BBQ restaurant in La Habra on October 14, 2025, after the woman ran inside seeking refuge from him, according to the La Habra Police Department. The incident occurred at 6:43 p.m. at 1240 W. Imperial Hwy., Suite A (Gui Gui 9292 Korean BBQ).

Officers arrived to find a man and woman with gunshot wounds. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics pronounced both dead at the scene. Police later identified the decedents as Jacqueline Medrano, 45, of Covina, and Jonathan Wang, 35, of Long Beach.
Authorities said the incident appeared to be a targeted murder-suicide. Investigators determined that Wang shot Medrano before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Several diners and employees were inside the restaurant at the time, but no one else was physically harmed.
The restaurant owner told The Korea Daily that a woman ran into the restaurant moments before the shooting, followed by a man who opened fire and then turned the gun on himself. Nearby Boba Roca owner Kevin Cho said the man told diners, “You are not in danger,” before shooting the victim, leaving witnesses in shock.
Police confirmed that Wang was under a criminal protective order, issued by the Los Angeles County Superior Court on September 16, 2025, prohibiting him from contacting Medrano. The order was still active at the time of the shooting. Such orders are typically issued in domestic violence or stalking cases.
The La Habra Police Department said it is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident and urged anyone with information to contact Detective N. Pineda at (562) 383-4353 or the on-duty watch commander.
The restaurant reopened on October 15, 2025, after cleaning crews restored the scene, and nearby businesses resumed normal operations.
