As part of its community outreach, the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles and LAUNCH LA co-hosted an open call for Southern California artists.

More than 300 artists submitted more than 1,300 works to the contest. After an impartial judging process, 40 works by more than 30 artists, including Korean-American artists, were finally selected. Sangjin Kim, a photojournalist from the Korea Daily, was selected for the exhibition for his work ‘Pandemic in LA’.

The competition was judged by Virginia Moon, Curator of Korean Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and art critic Peter Frank.

On May 2, the opening ceremony for the group exhibition ‘Divergent Synthesis’ by the selected artists was held at the Korean Cultural Center.

The exhibition features more than 40 works in a variety of forms, including oil paintings, drawings, photography, and mixed media, that define our time and provide an authentic perspective on contemporary culture.

“As an outreach to the community, we hope that the exhibition will bring together Southern California artists from diverse cultural backgrounds and visitors to enjoy their work,” said Sangwon Jung, Director of the Korean Cultural Center. The exhibition will be on view at the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (5505 Wilshire Blvd) on the second-floor art gallery until May 31.
