A new Koreatown apartment development has received final approval from the Los Angeles City Planning Commission, despite opposition.

According to Urbanize LA, the commission dismissed an appeal against a 7-story residential project planned at 446 S. Shatto Place in Koreatown, officially clearing the way for the development.
The project is led by developer Steve Hong of Chateau Properties. It involves replacing an existing surface parking lot with a new building containing 60 apartment units, ranging from studios to two-bedroom units.
The design was created by Andmore Partners, a Korean American architecture firm. The building will include a semi-subterranean parking garage with space for 40 vehicles. Of the total units, 7 apartments will be set aside as affordable housing for low-income tenants.
The building’s exterior will feature metal panel cladding, according to the design team. The project site is near public transportation and is part of a growing residential development trend in the area. Just a short distance away, a separate 8-story mixed-use project with 318 units at 550 S. Shatto Place was recently approved by city officials.
This newly approved development reflects continued investment and housing expansion in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles.
