Korean senior models will make their first appearance at LA Fashion Week this March, marking a historic moment for representation and aging in fashion. The debut highlights how Korean senior models are expanding the boundaries of an industry long dominated by youth.
The Korea American Model Association for Seniors, known as KAMA, announced the news at a press conference on February 5. According to the organization, this is the first time Korean senior models will participate in LA Fashion Week. The event brings global designers, models, and fashion professionals together each season.
A global stage opens to older generations
LA Fashion Week is a major international fashion event. Each season features dozens of designers and hundreds of models. During the 2025 fall and winter season, brands such as Cross Colours and Mister Triple X took part. Against this backdrop, the inclusion of Korean senior models signals a meaningful shift.
KAMA said the runway appearance represents more than fashion. Instead, it offers seniors a renewed sense of purpose and challenge. Therefore, the organization views the event as a platform for vitality later in life.
KAMA President Joanna Park said the goal was to inspire seniors to live with passion rather than routine. In addition, she explained that participants trained together in posture, health management, and runway walking. As a result, the preparation process itself became a source of motivation and energy.
The show is being prepared in collaboration with Third Wind Model Agency. Agency head Susan Kim said runways are often seen as spaces reserved for young and tall models. However, she added that seniors also deserve visibility and recognition.
She emphasized that many seniors spent decades prioritizing family. Therefore, this stage allows them to stand as protagonists under their own names. In her view, Korean senior models bring life experience and authenticity that younger models cannot replicate.
Details of the upcoming runway show
LA Fashion Week will take place from March 12 to 15 in Hollywood. Korean senior models are scheduled to walk the runway on March 14. A total of 41 models will participate.
They will showcase designs by Sheila Vicens, David Moss, and Joseph Auren. Organizers say the collection choices reflect elegance, confidence, and individuality.
The oldest participant, Geumnan Gu, 85, said she did not want to shrink into old age. Instead, she hopes to inspire fellow seniors as well as her grandchildren.
She said appearing at LA Fashion Week shows that life can remain stylish and meaningful at any age. Therefore, her participation carries symbolic weight beyond fashion.
Founded in 2019, KAMA has trained senior models through regular walking practice and classes. Over six years, it has operated six training cohorts. Through weekly instruction, the group supports seniors who wish to move from hobby-level interest to professional modeling.
