Another Korean suffered a tragedy early in the new year.
According to the LA County Coroner’s Office on the 9th, Christopher Kim (59) was found dead from a gunshot wound at his home in Diamond Bar at around 4:24 p.m. on the 7th.
The autopsy confirmed that Kim died of a gunshot wound to the head, said Sarah Ardalani, a public affairs officer at the coroner’s office.
Earlier, at around 11:04 a.m. on the 2nd, James Lee (64-year-old), who is believed to be a Korean, was found dead from a gun suicide at Pacific Pelisade Beach.
While the suicide rate of Koreans increased by 23% last year, gun suicides by Koreans have continued since the beginning of the year. Experts say suicide is on the rise, so ask for counseling or medication.
The LA County Mental Health Bureau (DMH) said, “We have opened the hotline ‘988’ since July last year. We also operate a mental health center in Korean Town, so we hope Koreans will actively visit and maintain their mental and physical health.”
