Nonprofit organization Korean American Women’s Association (KAWA) is stepping up to offer one-on-one matching donations to victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.
One-on-one matching donation is a philanthropic effort in which the fundraiser’s organization doubles the amount provided by the donor and handing it directly to the victims. In other words, a donation of $1 would give a victim $2. The funding for the donations were raised at last month’s charity event held by KAWA.
“We encourage donors to take part even if they’re only donating a small sum,” said KAWA president Ji-hye Park. “We value to culture of sharing and expanding it.”
The fundraiser will be available until next week. The aim is to raise $20,000.
Founded in 2004, KAWA has held donations for victims of earthquakes in Haiti, Nepal and Japan.
