Suzette Rhee Nedrich, a Korean American and former broadcast journalist, has been appointed Public Information Officer (PIO) for Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, according to a county announcement on June 2. She has served in the department since 2022 as a communications officer and was promoted due to her leadership in cross-departmental collaboration and key project planning.
Nedrich immigrated to the U.S. from Korea at the age of 9 and grew up in Virginia, where she began her journalism career. She later worked as a reporter and anchor in Virginia and North Carolina, including roles as executive producer for public broadcasting, anchor for Charlotte’s GOV Channel, and host of “What’s Trending” on Mecklenburg County TV.
Her journalism work has earned numerous honors, including the Virginia AP’s Broadcast Journalist of the Year, an RTNDA award, and an Emmy Award for the documentary “Generation Under Fire,” which examined gun violence.
Beyond journalism, Nedrich has also led media training programs and worked in corporate communications with both private and nonprofit organizations.
Reflecting on her new role, Nedrich stated, “We share essential information with county residents and engage with the community. I look forward to working with over 6,000 county employees and various community partners to tell authentic stories both big and small.”
She holds a degree in journalism and communications from Radford University.
