The Korea Daily held the first Senior Retirement Fair in collaboration with Korea American Medical Group (KAMG) at the Saenuri Church on November 16.
More than 600 people in their 40s to 80s visited the fair to get practical advice for their retirement years. Attendees expressed satisfaction that they received various information on healthcare, financial management, and insurance in one place.
The fair offered four-hour workshops on different topics related to retirement. The workshops included health care recommendations from Hanmi Medical Group specialists, a comprehensive retirement fund assessment from Syncis, an introduction to the United Healthcare program, SH Finance reverse mortgage, senior financial management from Blue Anchor, and information on moving into the Anaheim Villa assisted living.

“For healthy aging, it’s important to get vaccinated to prevent flu and pneumonia, see your primary care physician at least once every three months for a comprehensive blood test and other tests,” said Seung Soo Han, an internal medicine specialist who is also Chair of Hanmi Medical Group. ”For early detection of colon cancer, it’s important to have a stool test once a year and a colonoscopy once every 10 years. Women should have a mammogram every one to two years to detect breast cancer in its earliest stages.”
Financial tips for retirement were also provided to seniors, especially homeowners aged 62 and older.
“Reverse mortgage is a loan product that allows you to receive a fixed amount of retirement funds every month using your current home as collateral,” said Sang Hyuk Nam, CEO of SH Finance. ”You can live in your home for the rest of your life and receive living expenses. In the future, the owner can also decide to sell the home on their own,” he explained.
In addition, the Anaheim Villa assistant living said that MediCal enrollees 65 and older can move in as a couple or family at no additional cost.
More than 20 organizations and companies set up booths to provide one-on-one consultations, including free health screenings at 10 hospitals affiliated with Hanmi Medical Group, agencies and nonprofit organizations such as the LA City Attorney, LA County Department of Mental Health, Kheir Clinic, health insurance companies such as Anthem, United Healthcare, American Healthcare, HUB City Insurance, Goldwell Insurance, and Hansol Insurance, and financial management companies such as Blue Anchor, Syncis, and SH Finance.
“In order to prepare for retirement, a new beginning, with ease, it is necessary to make meticulous preparations and plans for its realization,” said Yoonho Nahm, CEO of the Korea Daily. “We made our best efforts to provide a variety of useful medical, health, and financial information at this retirement fair, and we appreciate our special sponsors such as Hanmi Medical Group and others.”
Open Bank, CBB, Shinhan America, H-Mart, Paris Baguette, Emart America, Nongshim, SCAN Health Plan, AGA Insurance, and Hot Deal also sponsored the Korea Daily Senior Retirement Fair.
