Kins Hotel Koreatown opens with home-like boutique comfort

The building owner and operator is M&C Property Management, led by Moo Han Bae, former president of the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles. He said he pursued the project as a new life challenge, acquiring the building and completing the hotel with his family after extensive preparation.

The four-story hotel offers 52 rooms. Bae noted the site’s strong appeal to international visitors and its symbolic spot in Koreatown, adding that it suits a family-run operation.

His daughters are central to day-to-day leadership. Elizabeth B. Lim, who studied design at Parsons School of Design, and Claudia B. Kye, an attorney educated at Cornell Law School, were involved from the planning stage through execution. The hotel’s name comes from “kin,” reflecting family and closeness. Kye said the aim was a place that feels like a home, builds warm connections, and fosters a guest community.

The project is a renovation of an existing structure. Kye said the team preserved the original framework while ensuring each room has a window and that space is used efficiently.

Amenities are designed for everyday needs as well as comfort: a fitness center unusual for a dense urban location, a small event room, guest laundry, and a lounge. Despite area parking constraints, operations rely on partnerships with nearby lots to meet guest demand.

Within a month of opening, the property has drawn both younger travelers and business guests. Kye said visitors from their 20s to 70s are booking, and easy access to city destinations is a strength for those without cars.

Three on-site restaurants are scheduled to open in phases. The team plans to raise overall quality with thoughtful dining from breakfast through dinner. Next steps include adding room service and in-room massage to position the hotel in the upper tier of boutique offerings.

“This is our family’s first hotel, so it means a lot,” Bae said, adding that once operations stabilize, they may expand to other areas. With its family-run model and community-minded concept, Kins Hotel Koreatown is designed to offer a comfortable, premium stay in Los Angeles.
