KAF grants $350,000 to Korean-American community organizations this year

The Korean American Foundation (KAF), Southern California’s first Korean-American community foundation, is set to grant more than $350,000 to the community.

KAF has allocated $165,000 among 12 organizations, aiming to bolster the growth of the Korean-American community and promote community events.

Recipient organizations are the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles (KACCLA), Koreatown Senior and Community Center (KSCCLA), Korean American Federation of Los Angeles (KAFLA), Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC), Korean American Coalition (KAC), Korean American Story, Koreatown YMCA, Korean American Family Services (KFAM), FACE, Turbo Charity, Seesaw Communities, and Vision Care Service West.

In recent funding efforts, including earlier this month and in November, KAF awarded $190,000 to four organizations, including the Korean American Special Education Center (KASEC), through its Donor Advised Fund, which supports designated organizations at the request of donors.

Together, these funds bring KAF’s community support for the year to $350,000.

“These funds are designed to support KAF’s founding philosophy of promoting the development and welfare of the Korean-American community,” said Kevin Kang, chairman of KAF. “We have selected organizations that are actively engaged in diverse fields such as social welfare, education, culture, youth, the disabled, and the elderly,” he said.

“The role of non-profit organizations operating in different fields is important for the prosperity of the community. We hope to contribute to the growth of the Korean-American community through this funding.”

Over the past three years, KAF donated $105,000 to five community organizations in 2021 and $805,000 to eight last year including $600,000 in Donor Advised Fund, for a total of $1.16 million to the Korean-American community.
