HYBE Opens Global Girl Group Auditions, Expands Post-KATSEYE Strategy

HYBE and Geffen Records have opened online auditions for a new global girl group, continuing their expansion into international markets following the debut of KATSEYE.

The audition window runs from June 17, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. PDT to July 17, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. PDT. Eligible applicants must identify as She/Her/They/Them and be between 15 to 20 years old. Only one submission is allowed per applicant, using either the English or Japanese version of the application form.

This marks HYBE’s second global girl group project with Geffen after launching KATSEYE in 2024. If the new group debuts in approximately four years, it could indicate a generational model for global idol launches. Existing teams like KATSEYE, VCHA, and dear ALICE may be considered part of a first wave, with more global groups potentially debuting from other agencies in the years ahead.

In parallel, HYBE is expanding across three emerging formats: global groups, coed groups, and localized groups. A new Latin American group is also scheduled to debut, positioning HYBE as a front-runner among major K-pop agencies adapting to international markets.

Industry observers note that the K-pop market has become saturated, making it harder for rookie groups to break through. With the traditional audience plateauing, HYBE’s strategy reflects a pivot toward new growth through geographic and demographic diversification.

While the newly auditioned group is not expected to debut for several years, the long-term development signals sustained investment in international talent. If the model proves successful, other agencies may follow HYBE’s lead, potentially reshaping the future landscape of the global pop market.
