On January 7 at 4 p.m., Maestro Gum Nanse will lead the concert at the Barclay Theater on the UC Irvine campus.
This event, aimed at raising funds for earthquake and war refugee relief, will showcase a new and varied repertoire from the Korea-LA Chamber Orchestra and three soloists.
Jong-Sup Kim, president of the Seoul National University Alumni Association in Korea and the exclusive sponsor and organizer of the event, said at a December 14 press conference, “Our aim is to commence the New Year 2024 by embracing the spirit of sharing.” He added, “I hope that we can have a time to share our blessings and build virtue together.”
“Given the recent refugee crises from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Russian-Ukrainian war, the SNU Alumni Association intends to go beyond mere social gatherings and entertainment, leading initiatives to support refugees and peace movements,” said Kim.
Both the Seoul National University Alumni Association in the United States and its Southern California counterpart will sponsor the concert.
Performers include violinist Eunice Kim, harmonica player Yoonseok Lee, and guitarist Ik-hwan Jee. The program features Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons: Winter,” Moody’s “Toledo,” and Roland Dyens’ “Tango en Skai.”
The Barclay Theater at UC Irvine, with its 750-seat capacity, has already seen over 900 sign-ups for the event.
Although admission is free, the concert will raise funds for disaster relief, with all proceeds going to the UNHCR and the Red Cross, as per the organizers.
Additionally, the concert will take place at the Las Vegas Country Golf Club on January 9. Ticket applications for this event will open later this month.
