Ground beef recall issued for 23,000 pounds over E. coli

A ground beef recall has been issued for about 23,000 pounds of product supplied to distributors in three states, including California, due to possible E. coli contamination.

Beef Course Ground 73L.

The USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) announced a Class 1 recall for products produced on the 14th of last month [month unspecified] by Idaho-based CS Beef Packers, according to a report published on the 12th by Fox Business. The items were supplied to distributors in California, Idaho and Oregon.

A Class 1 recall is the highest level action, indicating a risk of serious health consequences or death if consumed.

The affected products include 10-pound packages labeled “Beef Course Ground 73L”, “Fire River Farms Classic Beef Fine Ground 73L”, and “Fire River Farms Classic Beef Fine Ground 81L.” The use-by or freeze-by date is marked February 4, 2026. The products were distributed to restaurants and institutional food service providers, not retail grocery stores.

The FSIS (Food Safety and Inspection Service) detected E. coli O145 during inspection, and no human illnesses have been reported so far.

Health authorities advised businesses holding the products to immediately discard or return them. Food safety questions can be directed to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or by email at MPHotline@usda.gov.
