GM vehicle owners can now use Tesla Supercharger stations, but have to buy $225 adapter

Tesla Superchargers are now available to GM vehicle owners. The catch is they have to buy the adapter costing over $200.

The company announced on September 18 that GM-manufactured electric vehicles can now access more than 17,800 Tesla Superchargers nationwide using NACS DC adapters, the North American charging standard.

This gives owners of GM electric vehicles access to more than 231,800 Level 2 and DC fast chargers in the Tesla Supercharger network.

GM’s EV fleet includes the Chevrolet Bolt, GMC Hummer, and Cadillac Lyriq.

However, drivers will need to purchase an adapter to use the Supercharger. The adapter can be purchased for $225 through the mobile apps of GM’s vehicle brands.

GM will implement the NACS port for its new vehicles, starting with 2026 models. Meanwhile, another domestic EV maker, Ford shipped the adapter for free in March after announcing in February that it was joining Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Rivian owners will also have access to the Supercharger network starting this year. Tesla’s charging standards will become its manufacture standard in 2025.
