Girl group aespa will be throwing the ceremonial first pitch for the New York Yankees on Thursday, the Major League Baseball team announced Tuesday.

Giselle will not be participating in the ceremonial first pitch due to health issues, according to the group’s agency SM Entertainment on Wednesday.

This will be the girl group’s first time to throw a ceremonial first pitch, and also the first time for Korean celebrities to throw a ceremonial first pitch in a Major League baseball game in eight years, after singer and actor Suzy’s first pitch back in 2014.

SM Entertainment’s U.S. team announced Tuesday that Giselle will not be attending the group’s planned Governors Ball performance in New York on June 10. Giselle has been taking a break from group activities since June 1, skipping recordings for JTBC’s variety show “Knowing Bros” (2015-).

The girl group is continuing its activities as a group of three — Karina, Winter and Ningning.

aespa, which debuted in November 2020, is best known for its hit songs “Black Mamba” (2020), “Next Level” (2021), “Girls” (2022) and “Spicy” (2023). The girl group’s most recent release, “My World,” sold 1.68 million copies in the first week of its release, making it the most-sold girl group album in the first week of its release.
