FAFSA application deadline has been extended to May 2

The FAFSA deadline has been extended.

On March 25, the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) announced that the deadline for California’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid, commonly known as FAFSA, has been extended to May 2.

It came into effect immediately after Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 1887.

According to the new measure, California students enrolled in a four-year university now have until May 2 to finalize their FAFSA application, while students attending community college have until September 2.

Under the extended deadline, all students enrolled in a four-year university in California will be eligible for the FAFSA priority extension.

This extension also applies to the commission’s administered financial aid programs, such as the Cal Grant and Middle-Class Scholarship.

Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes, the bill’s author, said, “This new law will give California students more time to complete the FAFSA and gain access to the financial resources they need to begin their college careers in earnest.”
