The incident occurred on February 16 around 2 p.m., while the victim was gardening in her front yard. According to GoFundMe, one suspect kept her engaged in conversation, while the other two entered the house and stole cash, jewelry, luxury handbags, and electronics. The suspects fled in a white or gray Chevrolet Equinox, possibly from model years 2004 to 2009.

One of the women reportedly hid the stolen items under her skirt, creating the illusion of being pregnant. Allison Kim, the victim’s daughter, told FOX11 the thieves “knew what to take and where to find it,” implying they had targeted valuable belongings deliberately.

Authorities Warn of Widespread Distraction Burglary Scam

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that similar thefts are happening across the region, often between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., involving four to five suspects. Typically, one distracts the homeowner while the others enter through an unlocked back door or window.

Residents are advised to:

  • Keep doors and windows locked, even when home
  • Never allow strangers inside
  • Use security cameras or doorbell devices to verify visitors
  • Report suspicious activity immediately

As of 3 p.m. on June 3, a GoFundMe campaign for the victim had raised $1,290 toward a $7,000 goal.
