Court approves arrest warrant for South Korea DP chair attacker

The Busan District Court issued an arrest warrant against the 67-year-old assailant who attacked Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung on Thursday.

The court cited the suspect’s potential to flee.

The court took only 20 minutes to review his case.

The attacker — identified by his family name of Kim — could be detained for up to 30 days for questioning by the police and prosecutors and potentially held in custody for up to 18 months if his case proceeds to trial.

Kim stabbed the DP leader in Busan while approaching him for an autograph.
