Costco is set to open its first-ever standalone gas station in Mission Viejo, a move that marks a notable shift for the retail giant in Orange County. Unlike traditional Costco fuel locations, this new facility will operate independently, with no attached retail store.

According to the City of Mission Viejo, the gas station will be located at 25732 El Paseo, near La Paz Road and Oso Parkway, adjacent to the Interstate 5 Freeway. The project involves demolishing a former Bed, Bath & Beyond store currently occupying the site.
The planned station will include 40 fuel pumps and will be accessible exclusively to Costco members. It will offer the company’s popular Kirkland Signature gasoline, known for competitive pricing.
Robert Schick, a spokesperson for the city, confirmed that construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025, with the station expected to open by spring 2026.
“We’re excited that Costco is building its first standalone gas station in Mission Viejo,” said Schick. “It will bring added convenience to residents of Mission Viejo and nearby communities.”
The announcement has drawn interest from local residents and Costco members who favor the company’s gas prices but may not need to visit a full warehouse. This new model could offer a preview of potential future developments as Costco expands its footprint.
