According to a report by Fox Business on February 17, Costco is introducing a feature that allows customers to order cakes and deli trays directly through its mobile app and website without placing the order in person at a warehouse. The company has not announced a full rollout date, but the industry expects the “grocery and bakery ordering” feature to be added to the app in stages through the end of the year. The change is expected to significantly improve convenience, especially for members who live far from a warehouse location. Online communities have repeatedly reported inconvenience because customers previously had to visit stores multiple times just to place cake orders.

Under the new Costco cake ordering system, customers can customize sheet cakes and custom cakes by selecting size, shape, flavor, design, and written message. Production typically takes 24 to 48 hours.

The service is being introduced gradually in certain regions and is not yet available at all locations. Customers can pick up orders on the selected date by confirming the order number, and placing the order at least one day in advance is recommended.

Some online-exclusive cakes in the Costco cake ordering program must be ordered about five business days before the arrival date and are shipped via UPS. Products arrive frozen with dry ice, can be eaten after about two hours of thawing, and may be stored frozen for up to six months or refrigerated for two to three days.
