In celebration of Parents’ Day (May 8 is Parents’ Day in Korea), the Koreatown Senior & Community Center held the ‘2024 Parents’ Day Big Feast’.

The event took place in the auditorium on the second floor of the Senior Center on May 7 and was attended by more than 300 people. Key figures in the Korean American community were present, including Consul General Youngwan Kim, LA City Councilwoman Heather Hutt (10th District), and Olympic Police Captain Aaron Ponce.

The event featured performances by Korean American seniors. It began with the Senior Center’s harmonica group playing the Korean and U.S. national anthems, followed by performances from the Senior Center’s piano group, trot dance group, and K-dance group.

Councilwoman Heather Hutt surprised attendees with a $100,000 donation to the senior center. She also brought 250 carnations for Korean American seniors. Councilwoman Hutt pinned a carnation on behalf of the oldest attendee, Kyung Hee Choi (92), and then mingled with the other guests, distributing carnations to Korean American seniors. Councilwoman Hutt’s office also provided 300 boxed lunches for the event.

Following Councilwoman Hutt, the Korean Investors & Traders Association Southern California (KITA) donated 500 bags of rice to the Korean seniors who attended the event.

Meanwhile, Olympic Police Captain Aaron Ponce expressed his gratitude to the Korean American community without mentioning the recent Officer-Involved Shootings.
