BB Gun Attack Shatters Window at Korean Resource Center in Crenshaw

The Korean Resource Center (민족학교), a Korean American nonprofit based in Los Angeles, reported that its Crenshaw office at 900 Crenshaw Blvd was struck by what appears to be a BB gun shot that cracked the front door glass panel. No injuries were reported, and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is investigating the incident as vandalism.

According to Executive Director Jinwoo Kim, the attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. on October 20, when a car stopped briefly on Crenshaw Boulevard and appears to have fired a BB gun toward the building. The sidewalk between the office and the street is about 20 to 30 feet wide, suggesting the shot was fired from close range.

At the time, six staff members and volunteers were inside. Jacqueline Jung, Housing Services Manager, said, “I heard a ‘pop’ sound from the lobby and saw cracks on the glass. A volunteer tried to check the vehicle, but it was already gone.”

Security footage showed a car—believed to be a Hyundai Elantra—parked in front of the office between 11:30 a.m. and 11:32 a.m. No pedestrians were between the vehicle and the building, and it is believed to have been a single shot. Jung added that the outer pane of the double glass broke, and the cracks gradually spread over time.

Kim said the projectile “appears to have been fired from a BB gun,” adding that police will determine the cause after analyzing the fragments. “It’s shocking to experience such an attack when we have no conflict with any group or individual,” he said.

The organization filed an online vandalism report with the LAPD on October 21. Bethany Real, Deputy Director of KRC, confirmed the submission. The same office suffered a similar BB gun incident three years ago.
