Mic On, Mood Off: Alpha Drive One’s Geonwoo Halts Activities

The K-pop world just got a little quieter as rookie idol Alpha Drive One Geonwoo officially announced a hiatus following a storm of controversy involving alleged verbal abuse against production staff. While the group is known for their “high-octane” debut, it seems one member may have revved his engine a bit too hard behind the scenes.

On Wednesday, WakeOne Entertainment confirmed that Geonwoo would be stepping back from all band activities to enter a period of “self-reflection.” This decision comes after a series of online allegations claimed the singer was less than professional during broadcast recordings.

The “Hot Mic” Moment That Changed Everything

The drama hit a fever pitch when reports surfaced of a “hot mic” incident during a pre-debut content shoot. According to WakeOne, Alpha Drive One Geonwoo was caught using “inappropriate language” while his microphone was still active. The agency was quick to clarify that the remarks weren’t directed at a specific individual but were rather a “private monologue” of frustration.

However, the internet rarely accepts a “talking to myself” defense at face value. Following the incident, several individuals claiming to be industry staff members stepped forward with additional stories of unprofessional conduct, turning a single slip-up into a full-blown reputation crisis.

From Eight to Seven: What’s Next for ALD1?

With the group’s “Euphoria” era still in full swing, the timing couldn’t be worse. Alpha Drive One, the breakout stars from Mnet’s Boys II Planet, will continue their scheduled fan concerts and promotional trail as a seven-member unit for the foreseeable future.

“Kim Geon-woo is deeply reflecting on this incident,” WakeOne stated, adding that an apology was sent to the production team immediately after the initial event. While the agency hoped to settle the matter quietly, the viral nature of the allegations forced a more public withdrawal.

For fans, the news is a bittersweet “Formula” (the title of their pre-debut single). While many are disappointed, others hope this break will allow Alpha Drive One Geonwoo to return with a more seasoned—and perhaps more soft-spoken—approach to the industry.
