The kings are officially back, and they aren’t just opening doors—they’re blowing them off the hinges. BTS Arirang album sales have reached a staggering 3.98 million copies within the first 24 hours of its release, proving that the group’s nearly four-year hiatus only made the global ARMY hungrier for more.
According to Hanteo Chart, the album hit the “million-seller” mark just 10 minutes after dropping at 1 p.m. on Friday. By the time the sun went down, BTS had already eclipsed their own previous first-week record of 3.37 million copies (held by Map of the Soul: 7) in a fraction of the time.
A “Swim” to the Top of Global Charts
It’s not just about physical copies; the digital wave is equally massive. The lead single, “Swim,” a track that blends traditional Korean motifs with a modern message of resilience, dove straight to No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts in 90 countries, including the U.S., UK, and France.
The BTS Arirang album sales phenomenon extended to streaming platforms as well. On Spotify, the album pulled in over 110 million streams on day one, making it the most-streamed K-pop album debut in the platform’s history. In South Korea, the group achieved a “perfect all-kill” on charts like Melon and Bugs, with all 14 tracks from the album occupying the top spots simultaneously.
Why ‘Arirang’ is More Than Just Music
Produced under the executive guidance of Bang Si-hyuk, Arirang is being hailed as a cinematic exploration of the group’s identity. The album’s title and themes pay homage to their Korean roots while addressing universal struggles—a “hybrid” strategy that clearly resonated with fans worldwide.
To celebrate this historic milestone, the septet took over Gwanghwamun Square for a massive “Comeback Live” event, which was streamed exclusively on Netflix to millions of viewers. As the BTS Arirang album sales continue to climb toward the 5 million mark in its first week, one thing is certain: the BTS era is far from over.
