MacArthur Park Skyscraper: The 55-Story Project Redefining the LA Skyline
The iconic silhouette of the Los Angeles skyline is officially stretching further west. The City of Los Angeles has greenlit the MacArthur Park Skyscraper project, known as Centro Westlake, a massive mixed-use development poised to transform the transit-heavy area surrounding the Westlake/MacArthur Park Metro station. Spearheaded by the Walter J. Company in a strategic partnership with LA Metro, this 150,000-square-foot venture will rise at the busy intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street, marking a new chapter for one of the city’s most historic hubs.
Vertical Revolution: 668 Units and a Luxury Hotel in Westlake
Designed by the world-renowned architectural firm SOM, the MacArthur Park Skyscraper development will feature two striking high-rise towers reaching 55 and 39 stories, respectively. Beyond its impressive 600-foot stature, the development serves as a powerhouse of urban utility. It is set to deliver 668 residential units, ranging from modern studios to spacious two-bedroom apartments. In a significant win for local housing advocacy, 234 of these units are earmarked for low-income residents, addressing the city’s critical need for affordable housing.
The complex is designed to be a self-contained ecosystem. The approved plans include a 300-room luxury hotel, 105,000 square feet of office space, and a dedicated 10,000-square-foot medical suite. To ensure the project supports the existing neighborhood, the developers have committed to reserving 20% of the 56,700 square feet of retail space specifically for local small businesses and vendors from the Westlake area.
A New Standard for Transit-Oriented Growth in Los Angeles
At its core, the MacArthur Park Skyscraper is a model for modern mobility. The site will feature a central open plaza designed to host community events and a sophisticated “mobility hub” to encourage public transit use. With a staggering 968 parking stalls also included, the project balances the needs of commuters and residents alike.
Experts believe this “city within a city” will act as a catalyst for local economic revitalization. As this significant high-rise project prepares to break ground, residents and investors are watching closely to see how these towers will reshape the economic pulse of the Westlake district.
