City of Los Angeles, in partnership with Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance (KIWA), presents the Lead Hazard Remediation Program (LHRP) to keep the residents safe from health hazards from lead-based paint.
LHRP provides grants to property – both house and building – owners to make their properties lead-safe and to eliminate health and safety hazards. The program is targeted to low-income families with children under the age of six.
You are eligible to receive a lead-safe grant if the units have one or more bedrooms and if the building was built prior to 1978. Your household income needs to be 80% of the Area Median Income for the County of Los Angeles (please visit website for details).
The LHRP is expected to improve living conditions in Koreatown, where 70% of the buildings were built prior to 1978. “Using window seal that contains lead was permitted until 1978,” commented Doo-hyung Kang, organizer at KIWA. Since major number of buildings in Koreatown was constructed before then, it is essential to do as advised if your meet the eligibility.
