A San Antonio shooting outside a nightlife venue left two men dead, including a Korean man in his 50s, police said.
According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), the shooting occurred at 1:24 a.m. on February 18 in the 4500 block of North Loop 1604 West, outside “MYST Hookah + Ultra Lounge.” The victims were identified as Kyung Chang Lee, 51, and Derek Dashaun Brown, 27.
Police said a dispute broke out inside the lounge shortly before the shooting. One man was removed from the premises. Investigators believe he later returned with others in a vehicle and opened fire on a crowd gathered on the outdoor patio.
Witnesses told police that about 20 gunshots rang out in quick succession. One person at the scene said gunfire erupted just after entering the venue. When the witness turned around, two people were on the ground.
A video recorded shortly after the incident spread on social media. In addition, one employee who was working at the scene reportedly quit after the incident due to shock.
SAPD said officers found two men suffering gunshot wounds to the upper body upon arrival. Emergency responders pronounced both victims dead at the scene. Police confirmed that no other injuries were reported. The suspects fled in a vehicle immediately after the shooting.
Following an investigation, police arrested Joseph Anthony Amador, 34, and Lauren Tayler Machado-Juarez, 35, on February 20. Both face capital murder charges, which carry the possibility of life imprisonment or the death penalty under Texas law.
Court records show that the suspects remain in custody. Bail has not been set.
Police said the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are continuing to determine whether both suspects directly participated in the shooting and what motivated the attack.
